November 30, 2022 – The author of “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition,” Carol Aebersold, will be making a one-time visit to the Flagler County Public Library Palm Coast Branch at 10 a.m. December 17 to read her story and sign copies of her book for those wishing to have their personal copies signed.

“This is a huge event for us to have an author of her caliber not only come to the library and read her story, but also to have a book signing,” said Chief of Special Projects and Library Director Holly Albanese. “I was introduced to her at the library’s Festival of Trees. “It just so happens that Santa contacted me about sending an elf this year and would appreciate it if I created a space for her, so I set up one of our wall display cases for her. This was just happenstance, good fortune, or maybe a little providence.”

Just as elves have been making appearances for nearly two decades in households worldwide to report back to Santa about who has been naughty and who has been nice, the Palm Coast Branch has had its own visitor recently.

“The note from Santa said that our elf, Merry, will return each night after making her report. She travels through the magical door to the North Pole and upon her return to the library she will play until we arrive in the morning,” Albanese said. “Today she is playing with Legos, and it appears she took them from the children’s department. I hope she puts them back.”

Santa left a mailbox with some letters for children to fill in their wishes. Come in daily to see Merry’s activities and send a letter to the North Pole.

Aebersold, an award-winning writer, wrote the Christmas tale based on an elf from her own childhood as a way to spread happiness and cheer. She has appeared on numerous television shows from “The Today Show” to “The Rachael Ray Show” and has been featured in “Good Housekeeping” and “Parents” magazines.

“Ms. Aebersold is very generous to share her time and talents with us at our library,” said County Administrator Heidi Petito. “She is truly providing a gift to our entire community to make the holidays extra special.”

The library is located at 2500 Palm Coast Parkway Northwest.
