On Thursday January 26th, Flagler County Fire Department in coordination with the School of Life Homeschool group held a fire day. The event was geared towards everyone in attendance, both children and adults. The Fire department took advantage of the opportunity to speak with the large group of parents and children on fire, fire safety and what do to in a myriad of scenarios.
The fire department also went into details involving the science of fire, how they control it, how to read the smoke and what happens if you don’t handle the different types of fires properly. The firemen also showed off their skills and gave kids examples of how they train and why they do things in a specific way. There were demonstrations on how they enter homes, how they search homes for people, and how they set up at a location to prepare to fight a fire.
The group of Homeschoolers presented the Flagler County Fire Department with over $200 dollars of goodies, drinks, food and gift cards for their service and their time teaching the community.
The 3 hour event brought smiles and knowledge to kids of all ages (kids as young as 2 and as old as 15/16 were in attendance) and even the parents left with new found knowledge.
There are talks currently being made between the School of Life home-school group and the Flagler Fire Department about making this an annual event.
