Today, August 10th, 2023, The Dragon Institute held their grand opening and ribbon cutting in Bunnell Florida. Adam and Elizabeth, the owners of The Dragon Institute, greeted those who attended the ribbon cutting with smiles and information.
Adam, has been involved in his form of martial arts, called Wing Chun, for many years. He started teaching this form of martial arts in 2004. Adam is originally from Jacksonville Florida, but has been living and working in California, where his wife Elizabeth is from. They own a Dojo in California still, but have since moved to Florida and opened up another Dojo here in Flagler County.
Adam demonstrated some of the difference between other martial arts that many people see regularly and Wing Chun. He stated that Wing Chun is taught more for self defense and not for competitions because it is a street fighting style martial arts. It is a style of martial arts that focuses on efficiency, mentality, grounding and leverage. The style of this art is less on a physical ability and more on using your opponent’s energy and movements against them.
This style of martial arts has shown to be popular for the adults more so than the children because of the self defense aspect of this style. Adam does offer classes for children and teenagers, as he says he has a soft spot for the youngsters. Adam stated his passion for teaching children is because he is still a kid at heart.
During his demonstration he pointed out that this is a great form of defense for those who are less physically capable, have physical disabilities or could find themselves facing someone bigger and stronger than them.
Adam offers children’s classes from 5-5:30 Tuesday and Thursday for children 5-11 years old, he has a teen class for the kids 12 and over that starts at 5:45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and he offers adult classes at 6pm on Monday and Wednesday.
