Today, August 18th, 2023, at 9am, the City of Palm Coast held a ribbon cutting event at Waterfront Park, to acknowledge and announce the completion of the Kayak boat launch area of the park.  Photographs of the entire process of this new addition lined the path leading to the new pavilion area of the park, directly across from the new launch area.

Mayor Alfin came to speak about the park’s new addition which includes a floating dock, concrete paved patio area and slope leading to the dock, a paddleboard and kayak rental station as well as picnic tables and seating. This new addition to the park sits just before the Children’s Memorial Gardens, a place for local families to remember the children they have lost.

Waterfront Park and the Children’s Memorial Garden area were both built in 2010, and have since become a very popular park most notably due to the trails, fishing pier, and the children’s playground.

Mayor Alfin also noted that much of this was possible due to grants from the Florida Inland Navigation District (FNID), who have donated to date $790,000 dollars so far towards this park and it’s amenities. Commissioner Randy Stapleford  of the FNID talked about the amount of money they have provided in grants so far, as well as the grants they are hoping to award Palm Coast for more development of the park, in the next fiscal year. Stapleford stated that if the grant passes scrutiny and is awarded, this would be the grant totals to just over $1 million dollars that the FNID would be giving to Palm Coast.

Mohammad Mounir, from Saboungi Construction also spoke to those in attendance regarding this project. Saboungi Construction is the company who build the new additions to Waterfront Park, and Mounir thanked City Staff for their hard work and dedication to the project and the construction process.

Among those in attendance were Councilperson Klufas, Flagler County Commissioner Andy Dance, and County Commissioner Greg Sullivan.

The new amenities to the park are now open for the public, and residents are urged to go check out the park and the new features that have been added.
