Monica Garcia, owner of Monical Clean LLC, sat down and talked with us about her involvement with Cleaning for a Reason. Cleaning for a Reason is a 501C3, that was started by a woman named Debbie Sardone, whose mother is a cancer survivor.  It was founded in 2006, and has helped over 50,000 families battling cancer with free house cleaning services.

Monica explained that anyone can nominate a cancer patient by going to the Cleaning for a Reason website. Cleaning for a reason then finds a cleaning company who is partnered with them in that state or Canada, and they connect you with that company who provides the service free of charge to the patient and their family.

“No one pays for the cleaning, no family members, not Cleaning for a Reason. The company that is cleaning the cancer patient’s house pays their cleaners to go and clean the home free of charge to the cancer patient and their family,” Monica explained.

Monica continued explaining her inspiration for becoming one of Cleaning for a Reason partner companies; “I have had cancer hit our family, not exactly directly, but close. When my daughter was little, her best friend passed away from cancer; she had leukemia. She passed away three days after her 13th birthday, so that was tough. My foster sister had colon cancer, and it all just hit around the same time. Then I heard about Cleaning for a Reason, and I thought Why not? Why not do this? I like to support our community, This community is what makes my business greater, if it wasn’t for this community, my business wouldn’t exist. So this is a way for me to give back to our community.”

Monica recalled a one of the cleanings she has done for Flagler County cancer patients. “My very first cleaning was a cancer patient, who ended up being a child. I did it myself because it was my first time dealing with Cleaning for a Reason. I didn’t want to shock one of my employees, so I put on my little apron and I went to the house and realized they don’t tell you how old they are. So I realized it was a four year old child and it was so sad. I cried the entire cleaning. But that child is in remission now, so that makes me happy.”

“Cleaning for a Reason runs strictly on donations. They do have an admin staff, and most of them are volunteers, for there are also things they have to pay for like websites, advertisements, vetting people and other administration fees. Because of that we do fundraisers. I have a flyer here, and a little fundraiser for donations. The funds go directly to Cleaning for a Reason; I never see them, I never touch them,” explained Monica.
