At the June Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis meeting, members had the pleasure of hearing from Kristine Aguirre about the exciting progress being made at the future location of Whispering Meadows Ranch. Kristine shared updates on the new facilities and programs that will soon benefit the community. Whispering Meadows Ranch is dedicated to providing therapeutic services for children with disabilities and veterans, and the improvements at their new site will greatly enhance their ability to serve these populations.

During the meeting, Kristine accepted a generous donation of $2,000 from the Kiwanis club. This contribution will support the Ranch’s various programs, which are designed to offer therapeutic experiences and improve the quality of life for their participants.

In addition to learning about Whispering Meadows Ranch, members were introduced to Pop Smoke K9, a on-profit organization dedicated to training service dogs. Their mission is to help stop veteran suicides by providing veterans with PTSD, TBI, and MST with well-trained service dogs. These dogs play a crucial role in assisting veterans to lead more productive and fulfilling lives after their military service, offering companionship and support.

The Pop Smoke K9 presentation highlighted the impact these service dogs have on veterans’ lives, showcasing success stories and the rigorous training process each dog undergoes. The organization’s dedication to addressing the mental health challenges faced by veterans aligns with the Kiwanis club’s values of service and community support.

The meeting also included a special recognition for one of their long-time and very active members, Dr. Maria Barbosa. Dr. Barbosa was honored with the President’s Legacy Award, acknowledging her contributions and commitment to the club over the years.

As part of Dr. Barbosa’s recognition, five children’s books bearing her name will be donated to the library at Rymfire Elementary School. This gesture not only honors Dr. Barbosa’s legacy but also fosters a love for reading and learning among young students.
