The mission of the Flagler County Education Foundation is to generate financial support and raise awareness to enhance educational programs. They strive to provide the necessary resources and support to Flagler County Schools and students that legislative funding alone cannot cover. Flagler County Education Foundation was created to support students, families, and teachers. Their goal is to be the first point of contact when there’s an issue, working alongside community partners to find solutions and to shine a light on the needs within Flagler County schools.

One of their most impactful programs is “Stuff the Bus,” especially vital during the back-to-school season. This initiative provides essential supplies, clothing, and other fundamental items to students and teachers. While the program is active year-round, it is most prominent in the summer as we prepare for the new school year. “Recently, we were able to assist a homeless family by providing everything they needed for school at a moment’s notice, including clothing and other essentials to make their circumstances more manageable,” stated Maryiotti Johnson, Assistant Director of Finance & Operations.

The Senior Scholarship Program is another significant initiative. This year, the Flagler County Education Foundation awarded nearly $300,000 to students entering college and trade schools. These scholarships are a tremendous benefit to both the students and their families, helping to alleviate the financial burden of higher education.

The annual Josh Crews Writing Project event is scheduled for November 15th, with the location of the event still being finalized. This year’s theme is based on “The Jungle Book,” and as a costume party, it’s always centered around a novel read in the classroom. The funds raised from this event directly support the unique Josh Cruz Creative Writing program, the only one of its kind in Florida. This program is integrated into every school in the Flagler County district, allowing students to develop their writing skills. At the end of the year, their original works are published in a book, giving students their first opportunity to see their work in print and share their artistry, including writing and art, with the entire county.

“We are here to support our students, families and teachers. We want to make sure that we shine the light and assist anywhere we can that supports our schools as a direct support organization of the Flagler County School District. We want to be the first ones that our teachers, students and families call when there’s an issue. We’re here to help,” Johnson added.
