The FBI reports its agency has seen an increase in sextortion cases, which involve adults forcing minors to create and send sexually explicit images or videos. The offender then threatens to release the material unless the victim sends more images or gives the offender money. In 2022, FBI and Homeland Security Investigations received more than 7,000 reports of online financially motivated sextortion of minors.
