Flagler County Sheriff’s Office continues to take illegal drugs off the street

 Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies made 9 arrests this past weekend between 6 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, and 6 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024. They handled 528 calls for service and made 122 traffic stops.

Family cruise disrupted because of Ecstasy

Friday night, August 17, Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 95 because a driver’s license was invalid. When deputies approached the car, and the windows were down, a strong odor of marijuana was emanating from the vehicle. The passenger, Jerlonda Cason of Lake City was asked to leave the car. Cason said she and the driver were on their way to Port Canaveral for a family cruise. The suspect admitted to smoking marijuana in the car, and to not having a medical marijuana card. Deputies searched the vehicle and found almost 20 grams of marijuana in several baggies. The suspect was then arrested for Possession of marijuana with the Intent to distribute and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Before being placed in the deputy’s cruiser, the suspect admitted she concealed MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, in her body. A search resulted in 14 tablets totaling 3.28 grams. The suspect was subsequently also arrested for Possession of MDMA and Tampering with Evidence. $3,960 discovered in a duffle bag full of women’s clothing was also seized as part of the investigation.

“Instead of going on a cruise, this woman took a ride in a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office cruiser to the Green Roof Inn,” says Sheriff Rick Staly. “We do not tolerate the use of illegal drugs in Flagler County, even if you think you’re just passing through.”

An out-of-county warrant leads to the discovery of Fentanyl

On Friday night, Jacob Coy, 28, of Palm Coast was taken into custody for a misdemeanor warrant from Palm Beach County for Violation of Probation. Upon his arrest, he had a medical complaint and was transported to the hospital for treatment. At the hospital, the suspect admitted to spending time with a person who likes to give others narcotics. The suspect stated there was possible powdered fentanyl in his vehicle and he was trying to clean the vehicle before going to his parents’ home.  The search of his vehicle resulted in a white powdery substance in a baggie on the passenger seat. A small glass bottle containing a clear substance labeled “Testosterone enanthate” was also found in the rear of the vehicle. The suspect was additionally arrested for Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Testosterone, and Possession of Drug paraphernalia.

A woman was arrested for giving a minor drugs and alcohol

On Friday, August 17, around 10:30 p.m. Brooke Quantz was arrested for knowingly giving a minor drugs and alcohol. A traffic stop was conducted on E. Moody Blvd, Bunnell, and a search resulted in a jar of marijuana and several alcoholic beverages. The suspect admitted to owning the jars of marijuana and knew the minor was hiding the alcoholic beverages in a purse. Brook stated she was driving to Daytona Beach with the minor before being stopped. The minor’s mother arrived and was turned over to her custody. The suspect was arrested for possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

“This suspect knowingly encouraged the delinquency of a minor, enticing the child with marijuana and alcohol,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “I continue to tell parents, ‘Be the sheriff of your child, before a Sheriff’s deputy comes knocking on your door.’”
