On August 22, around 3 a.m., Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on patrol along Mahogany Boulevard in Daytona North. The deputies noticed a vehicle in a driveway with the lights on and not running and appeared to be unoccupied. Knowing this was uncommon for the residence at that hour, the deputies investigated further.

One of the deputies approached the vehicle and noticed a woman, identified as Jennifer Elkins, 43, of Bunnell passed out in the driver’s seat. An alcohol bottle and baggie containing clear, crystal-like rocks were seen in plain view. During a search of the vehicle, deputies also found a gray pouch containing a small vial of white powder and a cut straw. Elkins admitted to deputies that the white powder was cocaine. A total of 17 grams of methamphetamine and fentanyl, one gram of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the vehicle.

Elkins was arrested for Trafficking Fentanyl, Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where she is being held without bond.

“I commend our deputies for their excellent work keeping the community safe,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “They found this woman passed out while the vehicle was in her driveway, but she could have easily passed out while driving causing a serious crash ending in her death or that of an innocent bystander.”
