On August 20, a Palm Coast resident reported two cell phones, a tablet, jewelry, and credit cards were taken from her home on Frontier Drive. The victim also told deputies more than $8,000 was charged to the cards before they were canceled and deactivated. The victim stated the suspect, Jody Rogers, 53, of Bunnell took the items. Rogers was also living with the victim and her husband off and on for the past two years had a history of drug abuse and was believed to be using again.
On August 22, deputies discovered Rogers sold several pieces of the stolen jewelry to a Palm Coast pawn shop, and a warrant was obtained for her arrest. The pawned items were recovered and returned to the victim.
On August 26, deputies located a vehicle used by Rogers at John’s Auto Parts in Bunnell. Deputies found Rogers sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle and instructed her to exit the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed several of the items that had been reported stolen, a glass pipe with burnt cannabis residue, and a tube containing a crystal-like substance.
Rogers was arrested for three counts of Providing False Owner Info of Pawn Items (Less than $300), three counts of Dealing in Stolen Property, and Grand Theft of a Dwelling ($100-$749). Due to the presence of narcotics found in the vehicle and a vape containing hashish in her pocket, Rogers was also arrested for Possession of cathinone, Possession of Hashish, Possession of Cannabis (20 Grams or Less), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
A second passenger in the vehicle, Isac Ellis, 23, of Flagler Beach was in the rear seat of the vehicle where deputies noticed cannabis in his lap. He was asked to step out of the vehicle and was found to have a hollowed-out pen containing a crystal-like substance and a butterfly knife. Ellis was arrested for Possession of cathinones, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.
While this was occurring, a third suspect, Thomas Wood, 37, of Bunnell was inside the business. He and another woman were asked to step outside. The woman admitted to deputies that she, Rogers, and Ellis got a ride from Wood to the business. Wood was asked to place his hands on the vehicle as the investigation continued, but instead, he tried reaching into his waistband. During his arrest, deputies saw Wood standing on a plastic bag containing methamphetamine laced with fentanyl. Even in handcuffs, Wood continued trying to reach into his pockets. Deputies were able to stop Wood and then found he had a set of brass knuckles in his pocket. Also in his pockets were a bottle with a controlled substance and a green leafy substance. Wood was arrested for Trafficking in Fentanyl, Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Controlled Substance without a Prescription, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Tampering with Evidence, and Driving While License Suspended.
“This woman’s drug addiction led her to steal from her own family who was trying to help her,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Thankfully, deputies were able to track her down leading to the arrest of two other suspects, one a convicted felon. Hopefully, she will get help for her drug addiction.”
