The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Explorers Program recently traveled to Central Florida and participated in the September Delegates meeting hosted by the Florida Sheriff’s Explorers Association.

During the 3-day event, FCSO Explorer Sergeant Izzy Stanford applied for the vacant position of Northern Region Vice President on the Explorers Board. She was interviewed during the September Delegates meeting and was appointed to the position, becoming the first Explorer from Flagler County to hold an FSEA Executive Board position.

“Congratulations to Explorer Stanford on her new role as the Northern Region VP on the FSEA Board and to Explorer Torrens for placing third in the shooting competition,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “I wish all our Flagler County Explorers well as they continue their path exploring law enforcement. We have hired several Explorers, and who knows, we might have a future Flagler County Sheriff in our midst.”

Sheriff Staly not only promotes the Sheriff’s Explorers program, but he previously served as a Sheriff Advisor to the FSEA. Sheriff Staly began his career as a Sheriff’s Explorer, then called the Youth Deputy program, with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office when he was a teenager.

FCSO Explorers who complete the program and wish to join FCSO after graduation from high school receive a scholarship from FCSO to attend the police academy for new deputies.
