By-Line: Julie Murphy, Flagler County Government
Flagler County officials advise residents that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has started its resurfacing project between South 8th Street to North 18th Street in Flagler Beach. The project is estimated for completion this Spring.
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures throughout the project corridor. The speed limit in the work zone will range from 25 to 35 mph, FDOT states in its flyer. Those accessing certain driveways along the project corridor may experience temporary impacts, and the contractor will coordinate closely with affected property owners to minimize disruptions.
Electronic message boards and other signage will direct traffic through the work zone. Construction activity levels and noise will vary during different phases of the project, FDOT states.
According to FDOT, the project includes pedestrian safety enhancements, such as upgrading
certain crosswalks with Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) at the following intersections along the roadway:
- South 8th Street
- South 3rd Street
- North 5th Street
- Moody Boulevard (State Road 100)
Additionally, pedestrian curb ramps throughout the project corridor will be upgraded to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, FDOT states.
The construction schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions. For the latest project details and lane closure information, visit FDOT’s Central Florida website at www.cflroads.com.
