By-Line: Julie Murphy, Flagler County Government

Looking for a helping hand to alleviate the stress of constant caregiving responsibilities? Maybe that 60-plus senior needs more activities and social interaction. Flagler County may be able to help through its Adult Day Care respite program.

“We are a resource for our Flagler County community,” said Program Manager Dawn Lord. “We have an excellent staffing ratio – 1:5 staff-to-client ratio – which exceeds state requirements. We want to spread the word that we are here and here to help.”

Flagler County Adult Day Care:

  • Provides social activities and health services for cognitively and functionally impaired seniors, 60 years or older
  • Provides morning and afternoon snacks and a hot meal at noon
  • Provides entertainment like visits from local musicians
  • Brings in therapy dogs for visits
  • Provides a safe and secure environment
  • Is managed by a registered nurse
  • Is staffed by a licensed practical nurse and certified nursing assistants at 1:5 staff-to-client ratio
  • Exceeds state requirements of 1:6 staff-to-client ratio

“We have a lovely facility – the David I. Siegel Adult Day Care Center – that is conveniently located on Belle Terre Boulevard, south of State Road 100, in Palm Coast,” Lord said. “We provide social interaction and activities that can potentially delay the need for full-time conventional, residential care.”

Volunteers are also welcomed and wanted to spend time with clients doing things like playing games, doing arts and crafts, or reading.
