BUNNELL, Fla. — Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies made 19 arrests this past weekend between 6 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, and 6 a.m. on Monday, Month 24, 2025. Deputies handled 505 calls for service and made 144 traffic stops.
Traffic Stop Leads to Orange City Man’s Fourth DUI arrest
On Saturday, deputies arrested Landrieth Brian Powell, 62, of Orange City, for operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
During the traffic stop, deputies noticed Powell had slurred speech, and the vehicle had an odor of alcoholic beverages. During a vehicle search, deputies found open containers of empty alcoholic beverages as well as medication that Powell did not have a prescription for.
Powell failed a Standardized Field Sobriety Exercise and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Refusal to Submit to DUI Testing, and Possession of New Legend Drug without Prescription. Powell was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $13,000 bond.
“We have zero tolerance for impaired drivers on our roads,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “This loser has a history of drinking and driving and needs a wakeup call. If you drink and drive, you will find yourself checking into the Green Roof Inn like 162 drunk drivers did last year.”

Palm Coast Man arrested for DUI
On Saturday, deputies arrested another impaired driver, Wendell Patrick Curtis, 72, of Palm Coast.
Deputies observed Curtis pulling into an “exit only” entrance of a McDonalds before parking sideways across two parking spaces. When Curtis got out of his vehicle to speak to an employee, deputies noticed he was unsteady on his feet. They then observed Curtis getting back into his vehicle and slowly backing out before attempting to drive through the parking lot.
During the traffic stop, Curtis initially refused to respond to deputies. He then became belligerent and refused to step out of the vehicle. For approximately ten minutes, Curtis ignored deputies’ commands to get out of the vehicle. Deputies responded by opening the driver’s door and assisting him out of the vehicle.
“Our deputies’ proactive patrols kept this guy off the roads endangering other drivers,” Sheriff Staly said. “Driving intoxicated and being belligerent toward deputies is a sure-fire way to land yourself in the Green Roof Inn.”
Curtis was arrested for DUI, Resisting Without Violence, and Refusal to Submit to Sobriety Testing. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $2,500 bond.
