On March 25, following a traffic stop in Palm Coast, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two fugitives with active warrants for Larceny out of North Carolina. The two were identified using the Electronic License and Vehicle Information System (E.L.V.I.S.), the latest technology available to FCSO deputies to identify suspects.
During the traffic stop, the vehicle’s driver, Cleveburn Coleman, 55, of North Carolina, gave deputies a false name and a Maryland driver’s license with a doctored image of himself. After running the name he provided through the ELVIS database, deputies determined that Coleman did not match the ethnicity of the man registered to the Maryland driver’s license.
When deputies questioned the passenger, Shannon Hodge, 40, of North Carolina, about the driver’s identity, she produced another fake driver’s license for Coleman. After searching the ELVIS database, deputies determined this driver’s license had also been doctored. Upon further investigation, deputies located crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
During questioning, Hodge provided deputies with a false name and identification for herself before eventually producing proper identification for both suspects.
“Fugitives like these dirtbags who think they can use Flagler County as a haven to outrun their warrants and then provide our deputies with fake IDs should think again,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “We have the resources and technology to properly identify you, arrest you, and check you into the Green Roof Inn.”
Deputies arrested Coleman for Cocaine Possession, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While License Suspended with Knowledge, Providing False Name to Law Enforcement, and Possession of ID or False ID of Another without Consent. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $23,500 Bond.
