June 8th, 2024 was the third annual Hang 8 Dog Surfing Competition and Extravaganza at Flagler Beach’s Municipal Pier. Over 50 dogs were registered to surf, with over 50 dogs registered to compete in the costume contest. This is the third year that Hang 8 has held their dog surfing event in Flagler Beach, where the monies raised go to local rescues and pet organizations.
The board walk was lined with vendors, many of them pet themed businesses and rescues like SMART and the Flagler Humane Society. Adoptable dogs were also at the event today, in hopes of them finding forever homes.
The City of Flagler Beach voted to allow dogs on the beach, between 5th street south to the pier, between the hours of 8am and 2pm. Families and their pets lined the beach to watch the four legged surfers compete on the waves for top dog in each heat. The party continued with an afterparty at Good Times Dog Bar which started at 3pm.
