Commander Joe Barile has been invited to attend the 292nd session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Commander Barile will be the third active Flagler County Sheriff’s Office member to attend this prestigious academy, joining Sheriff Rick Staly (177th Session) and Chief Jon Welker (286th Session).
The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for United States and international law enforcement managers that their agency heads have nominated because of demonstrated leadership qualities and selected by the FBI to attend.
The 10-week program improves the administration of justice in law enforcement agencies in the United States and abroad to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide. The program’s coursework includes intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science. The FBI covers all costs associated with attending the FBI National Academy.
According to the FBI National Academy Associates Inc., graduates of this program make up the highest 1% of all senior law enforcement officers worldwide.

Commander Barile began his law enforcement career in 2007 as a Deputy Sheriff. He currently oversees FCSO’s Homeland Security and Investigations Section. This includes the Major Case Unit, General Assignment Unit, Cyber Crimes and Criminal Intelligence Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Problem Area Crime Enforcement Unit, Crime Scene Investigations, Victim Services, and Cold Case Unit.
In addition to attending the upcoming session of the FBI National Academy, Commander Barile has attended multiple other leadership academies. He is a graduate of the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Commanders Academy, Class 15; the 25th Session of the FBI’s Florida Executive Development Seminar; and the 3rd Session of the Flagler County Leadership Academy.
