“Congratulations to Commander Barile on graduating from the FBI National Academy. This is an honor for Commander Barile and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Staly. “Our Agency now has three active leaders who graduated from the FBI National Academy. Less than 1% of all law enforcement officers worldwide are invited to attend the FBI National Academy. This is truly a remarkable achievement for our community and Agency.”

The FBI National Academy is a 10-week professional course of study for United States and international law enforcement leaders who had been nominated by their agency Chief or Sheriff to attend because of leadership qualities and selected by the FBI to attend. The program’s coursework includes intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science. The FBI pays all costs for participants to attend, including travel, training, meals, and lodging.

The FBI National Academy was created in 1935 to standardize and professionalize law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and worldwide through training. Since its inception, 55,797 law enforcement professionals from around the world have graduated from the National Academy.

Commander Barile began his law enforcement career in 2007 as a Deputy Sheriff. He currently oversees FCSO’s Homeland Security and Investigations Section. This includes the Major Case Unit, General Assignment Unit, Cyber Crimes and Criminal Intelligence Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Problem Area Crime Enforcement Unit, Crime Scene Investigations, Victim Services, and Cold Case Unit.

In addition to graduating from the FBI National Academy, Commander Barile is also a graduate of the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Commanders Academy, Class 15; the 25th Session of the FBI’s Florida Executive Development Seminar; and the 3rd Session of the Flagler County Leadership Academy.
