Sunday Morning, February 12th, 2023 at around 3am, a grey sedan collided with a semi truck. The sedan was heavily and severely damaged and due to the impact, caught fire.
When FCSO arrived they found the passenger of the vehicle lying on the ground, while the driver of the vehicle was still inside. FCSO Corporal Barnett used his agency-issued fire extinguisher to calm the fire, while FCSO Deputy Pierre and citizens worked to free the driver from the vehicle.
When the Flagler County Fire and Rescue arrived on scene they were able to quench the fire and take over treatment of the injured parties. The driver and passenger where taken to a local hospital for treatment.
This is an instance where community came together, worked together and made a positive impact despite the horrible situation faced.
“I commend our deputies and the citizens that assisted and likely saved the driver’s life,” said Sheriff
Rick Staly. “Working as a team and using a fire extinguisher to slow the spread of the fire and forcing
the door open, they were able to gain access to the driver before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.”
