On April 25th, 2023, the National Care Foundation held their 2nd annual Denim Day event in the European Village of Palm Coast.  Erica Rivera, founder of the National Care Foundation, along with the Chamber of Commerce for Palm Coast, and Palm Coast Mayor Alfin were the speakers at the event.

Local business owners showed up to help support the event by donating items for the silent auction that took place after the Denim Day walk around the courtyard. Cork and Point, and the Red Koi both partnered with Erica and the National Care Foundation, and the Palm Coast Chamber of Commerce, to provide food and space for the silent auction.

Erica welcomed guests to the event by introducing herself, the chamber, and the Mayor as well as explaining what Denim Day is, how it started and the reasons behind it. Erica explained that Denim Day was started in Italy when a 14 year old girl was raped by her driving instructor. The Italian Supreme Court overturned the man’s conviction on the premise that because the girl’s jeans were so tight, she would have had to help the man take them off, thus implying consent. After that ruling, women in Italy marched around in their jeans in solidarity with this young girl.

All the proceeds from the tickets for food, and the silent auction went to the National Care Foundation, which helps provide victim advocacy and so much more to Flagler County victims.
