The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) made 10 arrests, handled 1,050 calls for service and made 228 traffic stops between the hours of 6am on July 7th and 6am on July 10th, 2023.
“If you’re thinking of stepping into Flagler County to commit any crime, think again,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Our Deputies and Real Time Crime Center work closely together to make sure that all vehicles within our jurisdiction are accounted for, and in full compliance of the law.”
Friday, FCSO responded to a call from a home on Empress Ln where the resident had reported their white SUV had been stolen from their driveway. Neighboring residents also reported vehicle burglaries around the same time. FCSO was able to establish a suspect description with the use of video surveillance, and the FCSO’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) was able to track the SUV through the Cypress Edge Pkwy area before it headed south on Belle Terre. Cpl. Green was able to locate the stolen vehicle at the intersections of E. Lambert Avenue and N. Fig Street. Deputy First Class Gaddie was able to locate a subject who matched the suspect description on E. Moody Blvd at roughly the same time. The subject was later identified as Kenneth Stancil, aged 29. Video footage showed Stancil exiting the vehicle in the same clothing he was wearing in the footage where the crimes were committed. Stancil was arrested and charged with 3 counts of Burglary of a Conveyance, and 1 county each of Driving Without a License, Petit Theft in the 1st Degree and Grand Theft – Motor Vehicle. He is being held on a $16,500 bond.
“Another great example of the importance of ‘See Something, Say Something’,” said Sheriff Staly. “It was thanks to these residents alerting us as soon as they saw something amiss that we were able to capture this thief within two hours of his crime spree. It’s also a reminder to not leave your car keys in your car, and a great time to consider joining our Connect Flagler County program, which would help us catch perps like these even faster.”
Sunday night, FCSO deputy Prevatt made a traffic stop on a 1997 Kawasaki motorcycle at the intersections of Canal Ave and Poinsettia Street. Driver Michael Eugene Devito, age 59, failed to provide his driver’s license and motorcycle endorsement, and was arrested for Operating a Motorcycle on a Public Roadway while Having No Motorcycle Endorsement. Deputy Hirschi then conducted a search on Devito and location 2.2 grams of Methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Devito was then arrested for Possession of Methamphetamines, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia along with the Operating of a Motorcycle with no Motorcycle Endorsement. He is being held on no bond.
