Today AdventHealth opened up their hospital to the media, allowing for questions and a tour. This is in advance of tomorrow’s event where the public is invited to come out and tour the new hospital on Palm Coast Parkway from 1pm to 4pm. This new hospital is set to open up for full service on August 2nd, 2023.
This new hospital is the product of a $167 million dollar investment by AdventHealth into the community. The hospital boasts of new, cutting edge and innovative technology, as well as a bright open and welcoming atmosphere, according to the staff.
The plans for this hospital go back all the way into 2019, where the planning and site selection processes began. In September of 2021, they were able to break ground on the new facility. AdventHealth thanked project managers as well as the City of Palm Coast for their help partnering with them during this project.
This hospital will offer many of the same services the other hospital on SR-100 offers, with the big differences being that the amount of specialists and providers will be increasing, as well as increasing the ER size, the number of local operating rooms and more. This hospital will also be helping with ER wait times, which is an issue that many have talked about in Flagler County with the recent growth in population.
This new hospital has already brought 315 new jobs to the area, and the hospital is fully staffed currently and expects to continue to grow the staff as the community grows as well. AdventHealth continues to monitor the growth of the community, and plans it’s growth off of demographics. They already own a portion of land on the North Side of Flagler County, as well as 100 acres in the area of the hospital on SR-100. They have the site selection space to expand as the community expands.
The tour included stopping in the new ER at the hospital. This new ER has 24 beds along with it’s own CAT Scan machine and X-ray right there in the Emergency Department to help provide services to patients faster. The CAT Scan machine is a top of the line machine by Siemens, which will allow the hospital staff to do CAT scans of lungs, hearts. Dawn Durso the Director of Imaging for AdventHealth talked about the uses of the machine as well as how this $1.2million dollar machine is a good investment for the hospital.
Second floor showcased the surgical center. Tracy Davidson, AdventHealth’s Director of Surgical Services, gave us a tour of the Surgical Center. There are 21 pre and post-op rooms available for patients needing surgery, as well as a total of 5 operating rooms. The rooms are very open and bright, AdventHealth’s way of providing a calm and relaxing ambiance for patients who may be scared or nervous about their surgery. They also have an endoscopy suite, were doctors will have top of the line integrated equipment to allow doctors to see what they need to see during a procedure. Around the corner from the operating rooms is the hospitals sterile processing department. This department is where everything gets cleaned and sterilized, which is one of the most important parts of the hospital according to Tracy.
This hospital also has 40 critical care beds, which includes a mix of ICU and progressive care units. The medical surgical rooms are for patients staying after surgery or procedures when it isn’t serious enough for the ICU or Progressive care, but patients need more time than they can have in the post-op rooms. There are also 10 beds set aside for orthopedic and joint replacement procedures. The medical surgical rooms are for patients who need an extended stay to help get patients ready to go. It is where the patients who are least critical are kept for the duration of their stay. The hospital does have a rehab service that goes throughout the facility to meet the needs of patients who need speech, physical or occupational therapy.
The critical care rooms are bigger and the layout is different with nursing stations set up in between windows to the rooms so that staff can be keeping close eyes on patients in this wing as these rooms are for those in critical condition who need constant care. This set up allows for nurses to keep a line of sight on both patients.
The imaging department was next on the list of stops for the tour, which housed a new X-Ray machine, CT, MRI, and Ultrasounds. These machines are all brand new Siemens machines that the hospital has invested in to create top of the line care to the community.
The last stop was the cardiology department. This is where they provide cardiac catheterizations, peripherals, angioplasty and event putting in ports for Chemo patients.
