The meeting started with the final millage and budget for 2024 presentation, public comment, a vote on whether to hire LaShakia Moore as the full time Superintendent for Flagler Schools and more.

The board heard the final draft of the proposed 2024 millage rate and fiscal budget. The board then read the resolution that determined the millage rate for the Flagler School District 2023-2024 fiscal year. The board then voted the budget unanimously.

The board was asked to accept the new contracts for the new FYO employees for the new hires for the Orchestra staff. The contracts were accepted.

It was time then to vote on the new superintendent. A motion was made to vote in LaShakia Moore as the new Superintendent of Flagler Schools. The board then voted Ms. Moore in unanimously.

Following the selection of the new superintendent, the floor was opened for public comment. A few residents made comments thanking the board for the vote on the Superintendent.

Ms. Chong asked for a copy of the Attorney’s contract to sent to all of the board members for review on the September 16th meeting. Ms. Hunt stated that there have been actions that have shaken her faith in the board attorney and she wants discussion on the matter.

Ms. Hunt also had questions regarding the Superintendent salary, as well as wanting the board to discuss board behaviour, media, and overall self governing. She stated her desire to move all of Flagler Schools District forward and away from any disfunction, while moving forward to a place of functionality and positivity.

During the meeting there was a request by multiple board members to have an open discussion on becoming a more functional board. It was brought up that a retreat would likely be an ideal place for the board to discuss and hash out any issues amongst members.

The discussion moved to scheduling a workshop for the board to work on LaShakia Moore’s contract. The discussion then moved to comments on the Bunnell Elementary situation. The members of the board made their comments regarding the issue, and how they are deeply apologetic over the issues that happened. They all echoed similar statements on moving Flagler Schools forward past this incident. All of the board members then congratulated LaShakia Moore on being voted in as the new Superintendent for Flagler Schools.
