The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is seeking the publics help in identifying the new facial reconstruction of a 1980’s cold case victim. On May 28th, 1980, the skeletal remains of a male were found near the canal/culvert of State Road 11, just about 2 miles south of Bunnell City Limits.
In 1980, the medical examiner and forensic anthropologists believed the remains belonged to a black male, between the ages of 20-27, around 5’6″-5’7″ and weighing roughly around 145-150 pounds. The examination revealed that this victim was the victim of a homicide. To date, the victim does not match any missing persons reports.
In December of 2022, the FCSO Cold Case Unit submitted the bones of the victim to Othram Inc, in an effort to attempt to identify the victim. October of 2023, Othram provided the FCSO with information, stating that the victim was predominately African American, with a little European mixed in. It is also suggested that the victims genetic family could be from the surrounding areas of Flagler County.
The Cold Case Unit requested the help of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Imaging Unit to help complete a craniofacial reconstruction. It is noted that this reconstruction image is not an exact replica of the victims likeness, but rather an interpretation of his likeness.
“I want to thank the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Now we need the public’s help to tell us who he is. Someone knows him. Let’s give him a name so his family will know what happened.”
